1st Claygate Scout & Guide Drum Corps
1st Claygate Scout & Guide Band were invited to take part in the national St George's Day Parade of Queen Scouts that takes place annually at Windsor Castle to recognise and celebrate the outstanding achievements of both adults and young people through a parade and service. We provided the Drum Corps and were joined by the 1st Ibstock Scout Band from Leicestershire and a Guards Band. In the morning, the Queen’s Scouts practised marching in Victoria Barracks and shortly after lunch, assembled in the Royal Mews to be led off by the Guards Band into the Castle’s Quadrangle. HRH The Duke of Kent (President of The Scout Association) along with Bear Grylls (Chief Scout), and Wayne Bulpitt (UK Chief Commissioner) reviewed the Queen’s Scouts. After parading from the Quadrangle through the Lower Ward, the Queen’s Scouts entered St George’s Chapel for the National Scout Service. The day concluded with a speech from the Chief Scout and a march back into the streets of Windsor.

The feedback from the National Band Advisor (Paul Wong) and our County Band Advisor (Richard Hackett) about the drummer's performance and marching was exceptionally good. Gill, our drum major, marched with the drummers. "We all had nerves leading up to the event but the spirit shown by all the young drummers was superb" says Gill. There were many hours of practice leading up to the event especially for the 6 band members who only took up the side drum 4 months before!! Congratulations to Ben, Sam, Ben, Gemma, Phoebe, Edward, Megan, Ben, James, Matthew, Gary - our drum majors Sam & Gill and support crew Rachel on a great performance - you did yourselves and Claygate Scouting proud. We now have our fingers crossed that the main band will be invited to take part in the 2015 parade.
