"Leading the Disney Parade was the best thing ever!" That was the amazing feedback from members of the band after our four day trip to Disneyland Paris in October half term.
The 1st Claygate Scout & Guide band was reformed in 2001 and to celebrate our 10th anniversary, the band auditioned successfully to lead the Disney Parade in Disneyland Paris on Saturday 29 October. The trip took about 9 months to organise, including raising over £5,500 from sponsorship and band performances to support the trip. We had to produce a video of the band to send to Disney for our audition, following which we had a nail-biting month waiting for Disney's response. The band's reaction when they heard the news that we had been accepted for the parade was fantastic - and the excitement started to build from that moment. But for band members, the hard work started in September this year when they returned from their summer break. With just 7 rehearsals before the trip, they started work on a completely new repertoire for the parade - including the themes from Scooby-Doo, Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Independence Day and the main hit from the TV show 'Glee': "Don't stop believin" and of course there were also their parade and marching skills to hone. |
