On
Saturday
8th
November
10
members
of the
band
joined
the 1st
Hook
Scout &
Guide
Band for
the
799th
Lords
Mayor
Show in
London.
It was a
very
early
start,
6.45am!,
to catch
the
coach
into
London
before
many of
the
roads
around
the
parade
route
were
closed.
The 1.7
mile
route
was
split
into two
legs.
The
outward
leg left
Mansion
House at
11am,
although
with 154
floats
the last
one
didn't
leave
until
12.06pm.
The
first
float
reached
the
Royal
Courts
of
Justice
in just
27
minutes
where
the Lord
Mayor
stops to
swear
the Oath
of
Allegiance
to the
Sovereign.
We were
number
60 in
the
parade
and were
evenly
spaced
out with
the
other 19
bands
taking
part
which
meant
the
crowds
were
entertained
with
music
along
the
whole
route.
Just
passed
the
Royal
Courts
of
Justice
the
parade
stopped
for
lunch
after
which
the
procession
reformed
for the
return
leg
which
left
Temple
Place at
1.15pm.
The
final
float
arrived
back at
Mansion
House at
2.45pm.
Over
7000
participants
took
part and
as well
as the
other 19
bands
there
were 150
horses,
hundreds
of
carriages,
carts,
coaches
and
other
vehicles,
steam
buses,
tanks,
tractors,
ambulances,
fire
engines,
unicycles,
steamrollers,
giant
robots,
helicopters,
ships,
penny
farthings,
beds and
bathtubs!
The very
large
crowd
was
estimated
at
around
half a
million
and in
some
places
were 10
deep.
The BBC
covered
the
event
and the
band
could
just be
seen on
TV but
were
partly
obscured
by a
very
large
bus from
the
Worshipful
Company
of
Launderers
who
spend
the
whole
parade
blowing
bubbles!! |
